NSW needs carers from all cultural and language backgrounds to care for children to help keep culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) kids connected to family, community, language, religion and culture.
Our goal is to honour and uphold the culture and heritage of the children and young people in out-of-home care. Wherever possible, we endeavour to connect children from a CALD background with carers of the same cultural background.
To support and equip you in caring for CALD children, we offer:
- ongoing training and support
- access to translation services*
- referral to a foster care agency that is able to provide culturally appropriate support

If you don’t share the cultural background of a child in your care, we are ready to support you. There are many things carers can do to keep children connected with their culture. For ideas on nurturing a sense of identity and heritage in CALD children, search our Resources library.
