My Forever Family NSW is a supplementary service funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), with the aim of providing recruitment services, support, training and advocating for foster and kinship carers, guardians and adoptive parents. We work with agencies to provide the best possible outcomes for carers and the children and young people in their care.
Support, train and advocate
Our dedicated Carer Support Team is available Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, to answer questions from carers on all kinds of matters from financial supports and policy, to issues with the children in their care.
We offer free training, specific to carers needs in person and online via our Carer Portal. Training certificates are issued and carers are encouraged to share these with their agencies and caseworkers.
We advocate for carers through research and by representing their voices in the biennial NSW Carer Survey. Our goal is to improve the experience of care, through systemic changes to out-of-home care, to benefit both carers and children and young people in care.
Recruiting carers
My Forever Family NSW run campaigns throughout the year and across the state, to recruit potential carers. We offer potential carers support and information throughout the authorisation process and can help fast track the process through the provision of online Shared Lives Training.

Caring for Kids Information Sessions
Every year we hold Information Sessions across NSW, where agencies are invited to meet potential carers in an informal setting, to find out more about becoming a carer.
Shared Lives online training
Shared Lives online training is available for your potential carers. The training is delivered by qualified and experienced trainers at a subsidised cost to agencies.
How your agency can get involved
- Spread the word! Ensure that your carers know about our service and how we can support them
- Sign up to the Carer Portal to stay up to date with the latest news, events, opportunities and developments in the sector
- Encourage carers to engage in our FREE training. Our training is specific to carers needs and addresses the issues that carers face in their day to day lives, including caring for themselves so that they can care for others
- Engage with the Carer Survey and other advocacy tools to improve out-of-home care.
