If you have a big heart and commitment to keeping Aboriginal kids connected to their family, community and culture, we’d love to hear from you.
Aboriginal children and young people in out-of-home care are in need of more Aboriginal kinship and foster carers. Get in touch to discuss how you can help make a difference in their lives.
We can refer you to an accredited Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, close to you who can assist in your caring journey and we’ll continue to support you along the way with our training and support programs. Learn more about the types of care.
We’re committed to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and individuals to develop our services in line with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles.
Our goal is to honour and uphold the culture and heritage of the children and young people in out-of-home care and we have developed strategies across our services to ensure that Aboriginal children and young people in care stay connected to their family, community and country.
My Forever Family NSW is committed to:
- providing tailored training for carers of Aboriginal children
- developing a dedicated recruitment strategy for Aboriginal people
- working with non-indigenous carers of Aboriginal children and young people to help understand and support the needs of the children they care for
- working with carers and organisations so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are supported by (or transitioned with their carer to) an accredited Aboriginal community-controlled out-of-home care organisation wherever possible
The Australian Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles aim to ensure that intervention into family life does not disconnect children from their family and culture.
